MidSolve My Problem

Ski cams in a grid, but this is a static directory with no algorithmic advantage.

Strengths
  • Minimal, zero-bloat UI targets power users (multi-monitor setups, tabs)
  • localStorage favorites + fast search is a genuinely better UX than YouTube playlist hunting
  • Jekyll + GitHub Pages: zero infrastructure, fast, maintainable
Weaknesses
  • Limited to 20-30 resorts; most have only 1-4 cameras and gaps in coverage
  • Curation is manual work; no automation to find new cams or verify dead links regularly

Post Description

I built https://skicamslive.com because I was tired of clicking through youtube playlists to scope out my favorite mountain and wanted something I could put up on my big TV. I wanted something that felt like a "command center" for skiers.

Key Features: Zero Bloat: just the streams High-Res Grids: Every mountain page features a 16:9 grid of all available live cams.

Power User Workflow: You can "favorite" the resorts you care about and open all of them in new tabs with a single click (great for multi-monitor setups while you're getting ready to head out).

Fast Search: Filter by mountain name or state instantly.

Mobile Optimized: Works great on the chairlift or at your desk.

The Tech: Built as a static site using Jekyll, hosted on GitHub Pages. I focused heavily on a "premium" feel using vanilla CSS and minimal JS for the favorites system (stored in localStorage).

I’d love to get your feedback on the UI/UX, and if there are any specific mountains you think are missing, let me know and I'll add them!
