MidRabbit HoleCrowd Pleaser

Cute scarcity experiment; Million Dollar Homepage did this in 2005 and already solved it.

Strengths
  • Simple mechanism—scarcity + rising price + permanent placement creates genuine urgency
  • Frictionless UX: click, buy, post, done (no account or verification delays)
Weaknesses
  • Core concept is a direct 2005 Million Dollar Homepage derivative with no novel mechanic
  • Monetization trivial ($1 slots); unclear if pricing curve matches demand or if project sustains

Post Description

Hi HN i built this as a small experiment in digital scarcity and early adopter dynamics.

There are 10,000 permanent text slots on a single page.

Each slot starts at $1. When someone claims one, they can add their own text (name, message, link, etc.).

As more slots are claimed, the price gradually increases.

There are no subscriptions or renewals its just a one-time purchase.

I’m curious how something simple like this behaves socially.

Own the Void – a trillion-cell infinite canvas

This is an engineering-first take on the million-pixel idea: a 1,000,000×1,000,000 logical grid where only claimed cells hit storage and the client pulls tile-based viewport queries while a DPR-aware Canvas draws without full redraws. The clever parts are the sparse-storage model and edge serving via Cloudflare Workers+D1, but the product hinges on hard questions — D1 query scaling, cheap moderation for free text, and whether a €1-per-cell economy actually funds permanent storage.
