YNAB meets portfolio tracker in one dashboard, beautiful visuals, but early beta and unfamiliar brand.

Strengths
  • Intentional design philosophy: manual-first logging builds financial awareness vs auto-sync passive tracking
  • Genuinely comprehensive: envelope budgeting + stocks + crypto + cashflow Sankey in one tool
  • Client-side AES-256 encryption and EU servers signal privacy-first approach; no bank sync removes API fragility
Weaknesses
  • Competition from YNAB (budgeting), Fidelity/Vanguard (portfolio), or free spreadsheets is fierce; brand unknown
  • Early beta on hobby hosting; 1000-hour solo build signals burnout risk—long-term maintenance uncertain

Post Description

Over the years, I've tried pretty much every personal finance tool out there. Loved some, hated others, but in the end, I always came back to using my trusty google sheet.

I needed something that combined YNAB's envelope budgeting with what a multi-asset portfolio tracker does. For me, your budget and your investments are linked. Obviously, never invest more than you can afford to lose - but how are you supposed to know how much that is for you without understanding your spending habits?

So I built Finzen

Finzen = budgeting + portfolio tracking + rich visual reports and stats

Currently in free open beta.

Built with vue, vite, tailwind, typescript

AES-256 encrypted data storage, EU servers, No Bank Sync

I've been working on this since last July. Feels good to finally have something I can share! Feedback would be awesome. This is the first project I've ever actually finished!!!

ZeroSum – Zero-base budgeting $40/yr(Got tired of paying $109 for YNAB)

The YNAB import wizard is the product's strongest play — migrating your full history removes the biggest friction for switching. Keyboard-first shortcuts, shared budgets for up to five people, and a $40/yr base plan make it a practical, cost-focused alternative rather than a reinvention. It doesn't break new ground conceptually, but the feature set and migration tooling are exactly the pragmatic wins price-sensitive YNAB users care about.
