Draw on street panoramas and others find your marks—genuinely new collaborative canvas.

Strengths
  • True 3D geometry projection (strokes wrap around buildings) vs flat overlay is a real technical insight, not just eyecandy.
  • Real-time WebSocket sync + persistent storage creates genuine collaborative space, not just a novelty.
  • Mapillary's street imagery dataset is an underutilized resource; this is a fresh exploitation of it.
Weaknesses
  • Adoption risk: requires critical mass to feel alive; early projects often plateau at 'neat toy' scale.
  • Moderation/safety model unclear; global collaborative canvas invites spam and vandalism without clear guardrails.

Post Description

Hey HN, I made a site where you can draw on street-level panoramas. Your drawings persist and other people can see them in real time.

Strokes get projected onto the 3D panorama so they wrap around buildings and follow the geometry, not just a flat overlay. Uses WebGL2 for rendering, Mapillary for the street imagery.

The idea is for it to become a global canvas, anyone can leave a mark anywhere and others stumble onto it.
