Fifteen-year trend visualization for HN hiring threads with pre-aggregated fast loads.

Strengths
  • Pre-aggregated data ensures instant loads without querying HN API live.
  • Fifteen-year historical span provides genuine long-term trend context.
  • Clean, read-only interface avoids the noise of actual comment threads.
Weaknesses
  • Niche utility limited to Hacker News community members.
  • Doesn't offer direct job application links yet, just analysis.

Post Description

I'm a long time ruby and rails developer living under the never ending fear of "rails is dead" every month, for the last 15 years or so. Does anyone know the feeling? There are a few aggregators and viewers out there, but I've wanted to build something polished and useful for viewing the HN data, so here it is, my take on the concept. Open and free.

I'm looking to add a bit more utilitarian functionality, a configurable monthly emailer, direct job links, etc, in the future. Hope you find useful.

Most Epic Discussions Across Time

You can scan decades of HN culture at a glance — the site lists 'epic' threads with sortable metrics (comments, points, linked/backlinked counts) and year filters, which makes recurring Ask HN threads and news spikes obvious. The UI is minimal and readable, but the product feels like an aggregator rather than analysis: show your grouping methodology, add CSV/JSON export or an API, and this would move from 'handy dashboard' to research tool.
