TheDailyPoop – Daily News, but Funny

AI Analysis

MidCrowd Pleaser

Funny news beats boring news, but it's a writing product, not a technology project.

Strengths
  • Execution is crisp: signature devices ('Translation,' 'The Number') are consistent and clever; tone is genuinely sharp.
  • Real monetization path: games, subscriptions, iOS app—shows solo founder understands product-market fit mechanics.
Weaknesses
  • No novel tech; Next.js + Supabase + Beehiiv is a standard content-app stack that doesn't differentiate on engineering.
  • Sustainability risk: humor freshness depends on daily writer output; scales only if hiring more writers, which breaks the solo-founder story.

Post Description

Hey HN — solo founder here. I built TheDailyPoop because every morning newsletter reads like a press release with a coffee emoji slapped on top.

TheDailyPoop is a daily news briefing written in a voice I call "The Jester" — dark, satirical, equal-opportunity roasting. Think if Cards Against Humanity wrote a newspaper. 25 stories every morning, 200-400 words each, no images, no fluff.

Every story gets signature devices:

"Translation:" — when a CEO says "strategic workforce optimization," we say "4,000 people just got fired over Zoom before Christmas" "The Number:" — one stat so wild it deserves its own moment "The Bottom Line:" — a mic-drop closer for every story We also run 6 daily games built from the headlines — spot the fake headline, guess who said it (CEO vs. dictator vs. cult leader), rank stories by insanity level.

Stack: Next.js 16, Supabase, Inngest for background jobs/cron, Beehiiv for email, RevenueCat for subscriptions. iOS app in SwiftUI.

The rule: roast the powerful, defend the powerless. CEOs, politicians, billionaires are fair game. We're not partisan — we roast everyone. The jester serves truth, not teams.

Free newsletter every morning at 7:30 AM ET. Would love feedback on the voice and the product.
