5.8kB shader player with face-tracking plugins beats loading a full 3D engine.

Strengths
  • Tiny 5.8kB footprint makes it viable for performance-sensitive landing pages.
  • MediaPipe plugins simplify face and pose tracking without custom WebGL boilerplate.
  • Handles WebGL2 scaffolding and uniform syncing so you just write GLSL.
Weaknesses
  • Fragment-only scope limits use cases against full 3D engines like Three.js.
  • Niche appeal means fewer community resources than established graphics libraries.
Target Audience

Frontend developers, creative coders

Post Description

For the past few years I’ve been building ShaderPad. It’s the easiest way I know to put a shader on a website. It’s fast, under 6kb gzipped, and includes optional plugins for history buffers, face/pose tracking, and other utilities for interactive shader work.
