Logo configurator for one company—useful internally, zero broader applicability.

Strengths
  • Grid-based letter rearrangement follows IDEO's variable logo system approach.
  • Export covers PNG, JPEG, SVG, PDF with light/dark and bold variants built in.
Weaknesses
  • Built for a single company's logo—no template system for other brands.
  • Canvas manipulation is straightforward; no novel technique worth discussing.

Post Description

Conventional logos are perfectly consistent everywhere: the same proportions, spacing, colors, every time.

I wanted to try something that goes against this corporate uniformity and come up with a logo system that can be individualized but is still recognizable as the company’s logo.

The final implementation is heavily inspired by IDEO, where internal teams could choose slightly different versions of the logo by rearranging the letters within a grid. I also wondered about allowing logos to be put in bold so I added that functionality.

The last motivation was practical. I get asked for different file formats and background-compatible versions of the logo. So I made this configurator tool that lets you customize your own version of the Monomer Bio logo, select file format, specify color configuration to match your background, and put it in bold for emphasis if you want.
