eBay-scraping agent sources hardware for a Mac mini datacenter running agents 24/7.

Strengths
  • Agent-first positioning with Cursor, Claude Code, and MCP servers pre-installed
  • Persistent macOS state solves iOS build and agent continuity problems
  • Clever hardware sourcing via automated eBay scraping for below-market M-series chips
Weaknesses
  • Mac cloud hosting already exists via MacStadium and AWS EC2 Mac instances
  • $40/month pricing competes with established providers offering similar hardware

Post Description

Hey HN,

Following the OpenClaw craze, I saw a huge need for hosting personal Claws/Hermes agents on macOS [0]. So I built an agent to scrape eBay for below-market M-series Macs and built a Mac mini datacenter [1].

But as it turns out, Claws aren't popular anymore. However, running agents like Claude Code and Codex on a remote Mac mini is a really awesome experience (especially for iOS devs). So far, we've seen users running automated iOS app builders, iCloud app automations, and more.

Running OpenClaw on a managed Mac Mini 4 instance

Shows how to run OpenClaw agents on a rented Mac mini M4 and use the 38 TOPS Neural Engine for low-latency local inference while offloading heavy work to Scaleway's Generative APIs. Practical details — hourly billing, remote desktop access, and step-by-step tutorials — make it useful for PoCs, but it's essentially a cloud-provider integration rather than a new agent platform.

I replaced my SaaS stack with a single AI agent running on a Mac Mini

Engineered as a full-stack, modular assistant — CLI onboarding, a Gateway + workspace model, and ClawHub for sharable skills let one agent handle DMs, cross-posting, monitoring, and scheduled reports. The scope and integrations (WhatsApp, Slack, iMessage, Matrix, Docker/Nix install paths) are impressive, but expect nontrivial setup, ongoing LLM subscription costs, and ops work to keep the agent from over-optimizing itself.
