Post Description

Hi HN!

I've built a web that takes your Steam game library and generates a 3D city from it. Games become buildings, playtime determines height. So your most-played game is a massive tower and that game you impulse-bought during a sale and never touched is basically a parking garage.

There's also a world view where every player's library is a building on a shared map. About 7k people on it right now, you can fly around the whole thing.

You can try this on https://thesteamcity.com

Built with Next.js, React Three Fiber, and Supabase. Works on mobile too.

Hope you like it!

Come check out my game I'm live testing

The landing page nails first impressions — bold logo, friendly onboarding and a cute 3x3 character picker that makes trying the build immediate and painless. The art direction (solarpunk, pixel dogs) gives it charm, but the page stops short of selling the gameplay: no short demo, video, or clear retention hooks are shown, so it reads like a pleasant MVP rather than a breakout title.

I built an AI that generates pixel art sprite animations

Turns text prompts into looped pixel-sprite animations with on-site playback and spritesheet/GIF export, which is immediately useful for rapid prototyping. The live preview and palette controls feel catered to creators, but the real value will hinge on consistency across frames (same character, directional sprites) and granular timing/frame controls.

Top Down Sprite Maker – The ultimate pixel art character creator

The real hook is the style-pack system: each sprite style ships as a ZIP that defines animations, layers and frame sizes so you can swap visual pipelines without hacking the app. Smart layering rules and constrained randomization make it fast to iterate characters, and the export controls (sequencing, layout, per-frame sizing) show the author thought about real game pipelines. It’s not revolutionary — desktop Java + paid style ecosystem limits reach — but it’s a useful, focused tool for pixel-art workflows.
