●●SolidCozyNiche Gem

Pixel painting over SSH using kitty/iTerm2 image protocols, but breaks in tmux.

Strengths
  • Leverages specific modern terminal features like pixel mouse tracking and inline images.
  • Zero-install access via SSH provides immediate, frictionless experimentation.
  • Creative repurposing of terminal capabilities beyond standard text-based TUIs.
Weaknesses
  • Fails in multiplexers like tmux and older terminals, severely limiting practical use.
  • Lacks persistence or collaboration features, making it more of a novelty demo than a tool.

Post Description

Hi all!

I've been experimenting with making silly little GUI apps for the terminal.

Most TUIs just use text mode but I thought it'd be fun to use features from modern terminals like Ghostty, iTerm2 and kitty that let you draw images and track the mouse position in pixels.

Unfortunately, this demo doesn't work well in all terminals or in multiplexers like tmux, sorry!

Anyway, have fun! For some more fun, try this:

ssh ski.dn.ht
