Lightweight monitoring for self-hosted LiveKit when LiveKit Cloud exists.

Strengths
  • Single binary (Rust+React) with small ~21MB Docker image, minimal ops overhead
  • Real webhook integration for session history, not just polling APIs
  • Focused problem scope: solves specific LiveKit visibility gap in self-hosted setups
Weaknesses
  • Niche audience—only useful if already running self-hosted LiveKit
  • No obvious differentiation from building custom dashboards using LiveKit SDK directly
Target Audience

Post Description

I built livekit-monitor this weekend after needing better visibility into our self-hosted LiveKit instances.

LiveKit Cloud has great monitoring tools, but I couldn’t find a lightweight option for self-hosted deployments. This project is a small Rust + React app (single binary) that lets you track: rooms and participants, session history, egress and ingress activity and etc.

Repo: https://github.com/jossephus/livekit-monitor

It also ships as a small Docker image (~21 MB).

If you run self-hosted LiveKit, I’d really appreciate it if you'd try it out.

Thanks!
